IWE
A writing environment for fiction and nonfiction, live at iwe-app.com. It scores your prose as you type and shows you what it found.
What it is
IWE is for people writing something long: a novel, a memoir, a book. Most editors treat a manuscript as a very large document. IWE treats it as a book, with parts, chapters and scenes, a bible for the characters, a codex for the world, and a corkboard for moving things around.
While you write, 38 analyzers read along. They notice the adverb you lean on, the paragraph that slid into the passive, and a tense or a point of view that drifted. They catch dialogue where it isn’t clear who is speaking, pacing that sags, a phrase the book already used two chapters ago, a name spelled one way for 300 pages and another way once, and the habits that make prose read as machine-written. Each finding is marked in the text with its reason, and you take it or leave it. Seven views across the chapters show the shape of the whole book: where the pacing dips, which characters go quiet, where the voice changes.
Three AI tools sit beside the editor. The coaches answer questions about the prose, the dialogue or the pacing of what you’re working on. The ghostwriter interviews you about what you mean to write, builds a plan from your answers, and drafts in your voice. The editor reads your outline, your characters and your codex, then proposes every change as a card you accept or reject. They run on Gemini, Claude or any OpenAI-compatible service, whichever you choose, and your manuscript is never used to train any of them. You can take everything out again at any time: Word, PDF, EPUB, Markdown or HTML.
What we built
The whole product: the editor, the analysis engine, the 3 AI tools, accounts and subscriptions, and the operations that keep it running day to day.
Behind it
Three short stories, written badly on purpose for IWE’s tests, come with a list of the 164 faults planted in them, and a build fails if IWE stops marking a fault it caught before. The AI editor is held to 8 recorded briefs that are re-scored on every build, and a draft from the ghostwriter that falls below the prose floor goes back for a rewrite before you see it. Every daily backup is test-read before an older one is deleted, and a backup more than 36 hours old is designed to raise an alarm.
